Description
The Old Forge is a house that dates back to the 14th century, featuring a 17th-century cross-wing and additional 17th-century modifications, along with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building has a mix of large square panelled timber-framing with painted brick infill, a sandstone rubble plinth, and a tiled roof. The hall range consists of four bays oriented east to west, with a former doorway at the eastern end and a cross-wing at the western end, which includes lateral stacks. The single-storey hall range has a pointed arch headed doorway that is now blocked on the left side, and to the left of a part-glazed 20th-century door, there is a four-pane window. The two-storey gable end of the cross-wing on the right features a 3-light casement window, and the jettied upper floor of the cross-wing has been underbuilt. Inside, the building retains a cruck truss and stop-chamfered ceiling beams.
