Description

This late 18th/early 19th century house, now occupied as Alpha Antiques and Kington Supermarket, was originally built as a dwelling. The building is rendered with a slate roof, a central brick ridge stack, and a large stone stack to the rear. It stands three storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and originally had a four-window front. The upper floors retain 6/6 sash windows with some original glass, set within moulded surrounds. A moulded band and pilasters run along the front, and a modillioned wood cornice sits beneath the eaves. The gable is pedimented, bearing a 2:6:2 light window with an ogee head and moulded architrave. Later 19th-century shopfronts have been inserted, featuring a recessed panelled door and plate-glass windows with ringed glazing shafts, a half-glazed panelled door with a plain fanlight in a moulded case, all beneath an ornate frieze, fascia board, and hood with scrolled consoles.
