Description

No. 1 High Street is a shop and dwelling that features a late 18th-century front and a 17th-century core, with some later alterations. The building is constructed of stucco and has a hipped Welsh slate gable roof. It stands three storeys tall and has a single-window range. The façade includes a shallow oriel window with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sash windows beneath a moulded cornice and hood, along with a 6/6 sash window in a moulded case and a plastered soffit at the eaves.

The late 19th-century shop front has an entrance on the left, featuring a half-glazed panelled door with etched glass beneath a moulded frieze. The shop window includes moulded glazing bars, and there is a moulded and modillioned fascia-board and hood supported by a panelled pilaster on the right. The left side of the building, which faces Broad Street, is also stuccoed and features a large prominent bow window with 20th-century plate-glass windows set between earlier stone columns and pilasters, topped with a moulded fascia-board and deep bracketed eaves leading to the slate roof. Above this, there is a tier of 20th-century two-light casements.

At the rear, the building has a 17th-century timber-frame structure that was restored in 1978, along with various 20th-century casements, pargeting, and a 20th-century door and window. The interior has not been inspected.
