Description
This is a barn located about 20 yards south-east of Ash Grove, likely built in the 18th century with an early 19th-century addition. The original structure features a timber frame with brick infill panels and weatherboards, while the extension is made of sandstone rubble. The barn has five bays plus an additional four bays, oriented roughly north-west to south-east.
On the south-west elevation, there are ledged stable doors on the left and tallet stairs to the right, next to a full-height opposed entry. The 19th-century extension on the right has full-height opposed entrances into the third bay from the right. The north-west gable has been rebuilt using breeze blocks. The rear side of the 18th-century section displays exposed wattle panels in the top row of its four rows of panels.
Inside, the 18th-century part features raking struts, with one truss having a heavily cambered tie-beam, which may have been reused. The tallet includes an interrupted collar truss with raking struts. The 19th-century section has pegged machine-cut trusses, raking struts, and iron rods replacing the king posts.
