Description
The dovecot, ciderhouse, and barn range located about 25 yards east-north-east of Field's Place consists of three connected parts aligned east to west. The dovecot, situated to the west, dates from the 18th century and is constructed of brick with a stone slate pyramidal roof. It has a square plan, and the south elevation features a central ledged door set under a segmental arch. A plat band and corners are adorned with regularly placed burnt headers, with a lozenge pattern in the burnt headers on the west and south sides above the plat band.
The ciderhouse, located in the center, is from the mid-19th century and is also made of brick, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It is a single storey, with the south elevation displaying a segmentally-headed window on the right and a doorway on the left. Inside, there is a cider press and mill.
The barn, positioned to the east, dates from the mid to late 19th century and was undergoing conversion, repair, and restoration at the time of the survey in July 1985. It is built of brick with a felt roof featuring a central gable. The south elevation has six symmetrically placed vent-slits on each side of a segmentally-headed cart entry. The interior is divided by breeze block partitions, and the restored bargeboards on the gable are scalloped with finials at the peaks. The barn is noted for its group value with the other structures.
