Description
The Red Lion is a house that has been converted into a public house. It likely dates from the 17th century, with a date of 1852 noted on a tablet. The building features a timber frame that is partly covered in painted brick, with roofs made of Welsh slate and stacks of stone and brick. It has a T-plan layout, with the main section running east to west and a cross-wing at the west end. The main range has two storeys, while the cross-wing has one storey and an attic.
On the south elevation, there are a total of four windows, arranged in a 1:3 pattern. These windows are segmentally-headed, with two-light casements from the mid-20th century. The gable front includes a four-light segmentally-headed window on the ground floor. The main range features mid-20th century top-vent windows on the left and a three-light segmentally-headed casement from the mid-19th century to the right of the central entry, which has a gabled canopy above it. The date tablet is positioned at the top of the gable. The east gable and the apex of the west gable of the main range reveal exposed timber framing, while the cross-wing has timber framing visible at the rear, with three panels of square framing situated between the cill and the wall-plate. Inside, the building retains exposed timber-framed cross-walls and heavy oak ceiling beams.
