Description
Lower Burton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with some early 19th century and mid-20th century alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, partly underbuilt in painted brick, and is topped with a slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, with a cross-wing aligned north to south and another range to the west that contains an axial stack with a brick shaft.
The south front of the farmhouse is two storeys high, with a jettied cross-wing on the right side. This cross-wing has a 2-light casement window above a square bay window. To the left, there are two 2-light casements above a 3-light casement on the left and another 2-light casement on the right. The entrance is located in the right-hand corner at an angle, featuring a hipped slate roof with trellised sides and a ledged and boarded door. At the left end, there is a brick addition with an external staircase leading to another ledged and boarded door. The framing consists of four square panels high with straight angle braces at the gable end, and the truss includes a king-post.
