Description

Burcott Cottage, Cobblers Cottage, and the Post Office and Stores are three houses dating from the 17th century, with some late 18th century, mid-19th century, and late 20th century alterations. The buildings are timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill on a coursed rubble plinth, topped with a slate roof. They are arranged in an H-plan, with the main range running north to south, containing The Burcott, while Cobblers Cottage is in the north cross-wing and the Post Office is in the south cross-wing.

A main stack, made of rubble and featuring an oven and a brick shaft, is located at the angle between the north cross-wing and the main range. There is also a small wing extending to the south from the south-west corner of the south cross-wing. The west front has two storeys in the centre (raised in the 18th century) with one-storey cross-wings that have attics lit by 2-light casements in the gable ends. The first floor features two 2-light casements, while the ground floor has a 2-light casement to the left under a plank weathering, a 3-light casement to the centre, and a canted bay window with a slate roof to the right. The right-hand cross-wing has a fixed window.

There are three entrances: the left entrance has a half-glazed porch with a two-leaf door, the centre has a four-panel door under a lean-to tiled canopy, and the right has a ledged and boarded door. The further wing to the right has two storeys, with a 2-light casement above a 3-light casement. The framing consists of three rectangular panels, with the central range featuring straight angle braces. The gable trusses have two struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex.
