Description
West End Farmhouse is a house and shop that dates from the 14th or 15th century, with additions from the 16th century and further alterations in the 20th century. The building features close-studded timber-framing with wattle-and-daub infill set on a sandstone rubble plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof.
The hall range consists of three bays and is aligned east to west, with a cross-wing at the west end that includes an axial stack. The two-storey cross-wing on the left has a jettied upper floor supported by a moulded bressummer and curved brackets. It features a five-light bay window on the first floor and a similar, larger five-light window on the ground floor.
On the right side, the single-storey and attic hall range has two three-light windows, one two-light window, and one four-light window to the left of a ledged stable door. To the right of the door, there is a six-pane shop window with a pentice above both the door and window. Inside the hall range, four cruck trusses are still visible.
