Description

The Williams memorial is a pedestal tomb located about 35 metres north-west of the west tower of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb has a square plan and a cuboid shape on a plinth, topped with a shallow pyramidal roof featuring a cross-gabled finial. There is a raised inscription panel with paterae in the corners. The east side of the memorial bears the inscription: "Sacred to the Memory of William Williams late of this Parish who died January 6th 1817 Aged 79 Years" along with 12 additional lines. Inscriptions are also present on the other faces of the tomb. This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
