Description

War memorial, erected in about 1920.

MATERIALS: carved from stone.

DESCRIPTION: located in a prominent roadside position within the churchyard of the Church of St Peter (Grade II*), the memorial takes the form of a tapered shaft with a botonée-style cross with carved fleur-de-lys in between the cross arms. It stands on a roughly-hewn tapered square plinth.

The inscription in lead lettering to the south-west face of the plinth reads:

IN HONOUR / OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR OF / 1914 – 1918 / (NAMES) / “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE” ECCLUS 44:14 / 1939-1945 / (NAME)
