Description
The Pipe and Lyde War Memorial is a stone structure erected around 1920. It is prominently located in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter, which is a Grade II* listed building. The memorial features a tapered shaft topped with a botonée-style cross, adorned with carved fleur-de-lys between the cross arms. It stands on a roughly-hewn tapered square plinth.
On the south-west face of the plinth, there is an inscription in lead lettering that reads:
IN HONOUR / OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR OF / 1914 – 1918 / (NAMES) / “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE” ECCLUS 44:14 / 1939-1945 / (NAME)
