Description
The Post Office and Shop is a former inn and house that now serves as a post office and shop. It has a core that dates back to the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and further changes in the 20th century. The building features a timber-framed core that is largely underbuilt and refaced with brick and sandstone rubble, and it is completely encased in pebble-dash render with slate roofs.
The main range was originally composed of five framed bays aligned east to west, with a cross-wing at the east end. There is a rear lean-to that encloses a lateral stack, and another lateral stack is present in the cross-wing. The north front has three entrances. The building is two storeys high and includes a 2-light casement window and a 3-light window in the gable end of the cross-wing to the left. To the right, there are a 4-light window and two 2-light casement windows, along with a 2-light window to the right of the doorway leading to the cross-wing. There is also a 4-light window to the left of another doorway and a third doorway that provides access to the shop, accompanied by a 3-light window to the right.
Inside, the building retains sections of square-panelled framing and chamfered beams with ogee stops in the central room, which also features a late 19th century or early 20th century bar from its time as an inn.
