Description
Parkers is a house dating to 1610, with the date inscribed above the central window. It is a timber-framed building with plastered panels and a tiled roof, featuring two external chimneys of a local type at the rear. The plan consists of a two-bay central section, a one-bay extension to the right built on a lower level, and a one-and-a-half-storey subsidiary wing to the left with a lower roofline.
The house has two storeys and three plus one bays, displaying regular metal-framed windows with three-light casements on either side of the entrance and to the left wing. A six-light casement is present in the right bay, with a matching casement above it on the first floor, serving to emphasise this bay. All casements appear to be from the 18th or 19th century. A late 19th-century Gothic gabled porch provides the entrance. The rear of the right-hand bay features a re-used, late 19th-century traceried window, repositioned around 1964 when the porch and a matching traceried window in the front of the right-hand bay were installed.
The timber framing employs irregular panels, incorporating wall-plate struts typically four high to the wall-plate, except for the left wing, which has three. Inside, a ledged door from the 17th century is located between the main central bays. The right bay suggests the addition of a parlour bay at a later date. Group Value: the building enhances the character and appearance of the wider area.
