Description

The Old School House is a brick school and schoolhouse, later converted into a dwelling, dating to 1861. It has stone dressings and a tiled roof, with a half-hipped section over the schoolhouse and a roughly shingled flèche at the intersection of the roofs. The building is arranged in an "L" shape, comprising two bays and a cross-wing. The former school section has three-light mullioned windows, now reduced in height to accommodate a floor below, with the upper parts filled with boarding. A prominent central chimney features weathered sides and a quatrefoiled date stone. A catslide roof extends to the right, connecting to the schoolhouse. Two 20th-century Velux roof lights have been inserted beside the chimney. The west window is in a Decorated style. The former schoolhouse is two storeys high; its gable end has a range of windows, with a two-light trefoil-headed window on the first floor and a three-light window on the ground floor. The east return has a central entrance. The building was listed before its conversion.
