Description
Marbury House, formerly known as No. 119 St Owen Street, is a house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from the early 18th century, with a 19th-century wing added to the rear. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco plinth and features a plain tile roof and a brick end stack on the right. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a four-window range with 6/6 sash windows set in moulded cases beneath segmental arches. The eaves are adorned with moulded wood modillion, and there are 19th-century roof dormers featuring 3/3 sashes.
The entrance is located to the centre left and consists of an 18th-century six-panel door with a fanlight, framed by a plain wood case and topped with a modillioned open pediment hood supported by round pilasters. Above the entrance, there is a brick band that is interrupted over the hood.
Inside, the building features an early 18th-century open-well staircase with a moulded string and rail, along with turned balusters. The attic contains four plank doors. On the first floor, there are three 19th-century four-panel doors, an 18th-century corner fireplace, additional four-panel doors, a late 19th-century fireplace, and a stick baluster staircase leading to the ground floor. The ground floor includes a rear wing with a late 19th to early 20th-century fireplace, and the cellar has a plank door.
