Description

The building at 16-22 West Street comprises a group of houses, now used as shops, dating primarily to the 17th century, with significant alterations occurring later. The front elevation is roughly finished with a roughcast render, designed to mimic timber framing, and has a roof covered in old plain tiles with two ridge lines. The building is two storeys high and has a four-window front. To the left is a row of four 19th-century fixed windows, followed by a casement window with glazing bars, and then four 19th-century cross-windows, each with a casement. Two early 20th-century shop fronts are located on the right side, with a blocked doorway in between. The rear of the building features a roof covered in concrete tiles, a reduced brick side stack, brickwork, concrete block construction, and timber framing over a passageway. There are 18th-century and later gable wings at the rear. The interiors have not been inspected. This building is recognised for its group value.
