BODENHAM CP A 417 (west side) The Ketch House and adjoining stables

GV II

House, formerly used as cider house and kennels, and adjoining stables. C17, altered and extended mid-C19. Coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and some timber-framing with painted brick infill and machine- tiled roofs. Three bays aligned north-west/south-west having external rubble end chimneys with brick stacks. Two storeys and attic. Framing: four rows of square panels at first floor level to front and rear. North-east front elevation: there is a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor, two first floor 12-pane sashes (the one in the left bay is narrower) and a central first floor 2-light casement. Roof has central skylight. Central entrance has a shallow gabled canopy and a raised panel on the lintel above which is the carved relief of a figure in an ornate scrolled surround. There is a 6-panelled door, two panels are raised and fielded and four are glazed. Attic lights in gable ends. A single-storey kitchen wing adjoins the south-east gable end to the rear of the chimney. Interior: there is a C19 corner cupboard with a panelled door of probably C17 date Stables adjoin north-west end. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. Three bays (bay adjacent to house has been converted to a dwelling). Two levels. Main south-west elevation: there are four windows on the ground floor, one with a 2-light casement, two small rectangular openings just beneath first floor level, one with 2-light casement, and two loft openings and a 2-light casement on the upper level. There are three doorways, two with stable doors, one with a C20 door.
