Description
Bank House is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the 17th century, which was refaced and remodeled in the mid-19th century and restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill set on a tall base made of sandstone rubble and brick, partly refaced in brick, topped with a slate roof and a 19th-century brick chimney at the front ridge. The building has three bays aligned east to west and an external brick chimney at the east end. It stands three storeys high with a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing is exposed at the west end and rear, showcasing four rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, along with a collar and tie-beam truss at the west end that includes two collars, four struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar.
On the south front elevation, the ground and first floor windows feature gauged flat heads and ashlar keyblocks, all of which are 16-pane sashes. The second floor has three 2-light casements. The main entrance at the west end is adorned with a flat ashlar canopy supported by shaped ashlar brackets, an ashlar architrave, and a 20th-century door that includes a transom light with two glazing bars. Additionally, there is a 20th-century lean-to outshut and a two-storey wing at the rear.
