Description

Matthews Monument is a chest tomb located about 20 yards south of the east end of the south aisle of the Church of St George. It commemorates William Matthews, who died in 1824. The tomb is made of finely cut sandstone and features a deep lightly moulded base and a flat moulded capping. It has a fluted frieze, corner balusters, and inscription panels with quadrant corners and paterae.
