Description
The Higgins memorial is a chest tomb located about 28 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary. It commemorates John Higgins, who died in 1804. The tomb features bold corner balusters adorned with sprigs of wheat, raised inscription panels flanked by husks and paterae, a moulded cornice, and a bevelled top. The inscription reads: "Sacred to the Memory/ of/ John Higgins/ of this Parish Gent/ he departed this life/ 18th day of April/ 1804, Aged 61 Years/ [at least one more line]." This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the church's setting, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
