Description

The Higgons memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 8 meters south of the southwest corner of the Church of St. Stephen. It dates from around 1811 and is made of limestone. The tomb is rectangular in shape, featuring a moulded plinth, capping, and a cavetto-moulded top. It has moulded oval inscription panels adorned with rosettes in the spandrels, and corner pilasters, with those on the south side displaying hanging garlands. There are also oval inscription panels on the ends. The inscription on the north side commemorates John Higgons, who died in 1811, while inscriptions to other members of the Higgons family are found on the other sides.
