Description

The two Higgins monuments are located in the churchyard of the Church of Holy Trinity, approximately 7 to 9 meters south of the east end of the chancel. These short chest tombs date from the third quarter of the 18th century and are made of stone.

The northern monument commemorates Thomas Higgins, who died in 1778. It features a flat lid with a moulded edge and long sides. The north side has a raised oval design, while the south side has a raised rectangle with square indented corners, and corner paterae on both sides. The ends are designed with elongated pilasters and a fluted frieze that includes paterae at the center and ends, as well as on the returns. The east end has a circular moulding on the stem, and an urn is positioned on the west. The monument stands on a large stone base with a moulded plinth and displays good lettering.

The southern monument honors Henry and Mary Higgins, who died in 1760 and 1763, respectively. It is similar in design to the first monument but features sides that are raised with a rectangular panel and a plain frieze on the pilasters, along with a swelling center leading to a circle on the eastern end.
