Description

The Laurels is an early 19th-century house that was altered in the mid-to-late 19th century. The front is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, with brickwork in a Sussex bond pattern; the roof is tiled. The house has three windows across the front and was likely originally two rooms deep, with two storeys and attics. An off-centre six-panel front door is sheltered by a single-storey gabled timber porch with a rendered base. The porch has half-glazed sides, a six-panel door approached by one stone step, sidelights, a boarded gable over the door framing the exposed lower half, and fishscale boarding above. Sash windows with wide cement-rendered lintels, lined to look like voussoirs, are set on either side of the front door. Two similar nine-pane sashes are on the first floor. Brick gable chimneys rise from the ridge. The left return displays a further open, gabled timber porch and a sash window to the left. A lean-to projects from the left gable. A single-storey lean-to has been added to the back of the house. On the left, the first floor has a two-light casement with a rubbed brick arch; a two-light casement with leaded lights and a cambered brick arch is in the gable.
