Description
The Beavan and Higgins memorial is a chest tomb located about 42 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary, dating from around 1800. It is made of ashlar stone and features corner balusters, a moulded cornice, and a bevelled top. The inscription panels are framed by swags of husks, and there are low relief classical urns at the ends. The north inscription reads: "Sacred to the Memory of Ann Wife of the late William Beavan of Middlemoor in this Parish Gent who departed this Life 11 day of Oct 1804 Aged 49 years [2 more lines]." The memorial also commemorates Martha Higgins, who died in 1788. This tomb is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
