Description

Ford Farmhouse and the adjoining granary, now used as holiday flats, date from the mid-18th century and have undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed dressed sandstone rubble with brick dressings and partly brick-faced, topped by a machine-tiled hipped roof with end brick stacks. It stands two storeys high with a cogged brick eaves cornice and features three bays. The windows have cambered brick heads, with a 20-pane sash and a three-light casement with a transom on the ground floor, and two three-light casements and a four-light casement on the first floor. The central entrance has a 20th-century gabled brick porch on a rubble base with trellis infill. Inside, the doorway features a moulded architrave, a half-glazed door with sidelights, and a transom light with four glazing bars. The south gable end of the farmhouse has been faced with brick, and some original panelled doors remain inside. At the rear of the ground floor, there is a re-set stone doorway with a two-centred head and chamfered jambs, believed to have come from Leominster Priory.

The granary, also from the mid-18th century, is partly built of sandstone rubble and partly timber-framed with brick infill, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It likely has four bays and is attached to the north gable end of the farmhouse, standing two levels high. The framing features three rows of panels at the upper floor level with some long straight braces across the upper corners. It has a collar and tie-beam truss at the north gable end, with four struts below the collar and a subsidiary lower rail. The east front elevation includes a two-light and a single-light 20th-century casement on the ground floor, four first-floor 20th-century single-light casements, and a raking-top dormer with a two-light and a single-light 20th-century casement. Adjacent to the farmhouse is a lean-to outshut with a catslide roof, a two-light casement, and a 20th-century door.
