Description

Brook House Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and the mid-20th century. It has rendered infill panels between the timber framing, which sits on a rubble plinth, and a slate roof. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with the main range facing south-west and a smaller range extending to the north-west. A substantial brick stack is located at the junction of the two ranges. The south-east front has two storeys and a cellar. It contains four windows, all of which are 3-light casements, except for a single-light casement to the left of the centre. Ground floor windows are 3-light casements, and the entrance is located in the right-hand corner, approached by a flight of steps with a brick parapet wall. The entrance has a gabled slate canopy supported by wooden brackets, and a 6-panel door. A cellar entrance, to the left of centre, has a concrete lintel and a ledged and boarded door. The timber framing is characterised by four square panels in height, with straight tension braces.
