Description
The barn, located approximately 20 meters east of the Precentor's House in Hereford, is a Grade II* listed structure. It dates from the late 13th century and has undergone alterations in the 16th and 18th centuries. The barn is timber-framed with brick infill at the front and weatherboarding on the sides, resting on a high coursed dressed stone base, and features a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and consists of seven bays. The south front includes two small windows and double doors on the left and right sides, with a loft door above the right side. The rear has various doors and windows. Inside, there are surviving late 13th-century wall plates with edge-halved tabled scarf joints and notched lap-joints. The original structure may have been aisled, but it was shortened and re-roofed in the 16th century and raised in the 18th century. The interior features a 16th-century queen-strut roof with trenched purlins and curved windbraces, along with a two-panel door and a plank door.
