Description
Ainslie House is a late 18th-century house that has been converted into flats. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with three windows. The windows are modern eight-over-eight sashes set beneath gauged brick flat arches, with four-over-four and paired two-over-two sashes above. The eaves are adorned with brick modillion detailing.
The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with an ornamental overlight, framed in a moulded surround and recessed beneath a moulded flat hood supported by consoles. This entrance is flanked by eight-over-eight sash windows. To the right, there is a slightly recessed wing that contains two modern four-over-eight sashes under segmental arches, with four-over-four sashes in 19th-century brickwork above. This wing also features brick modillion eaves and a modern brick end stack. A six-panel door and a four-over-eight sash are located to the right, also under segmental arches.
Inside, the property retains a late 18th-century to early 19th-century dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a swan neck rail, along with turned balusters. The ground floor includes a cornice in the hall, coved ceilings, a panelled dado, and six-panel doors. The cellar is lined with stone and brick, partly vaulted with brick, and has brick bins and a brick floor.
