Description
The gate piers and railings located about 25 metres north-east of the Church of St John the Evangelist date from the mid-18th century, specifically before 1765. They are constructed from ashlar and wrought iron. The structure features two square-plan gate piers that flank a central entrance, with flanking walls extending approximately 15 metres each, which are terminated by two small piers. The wall advances 2 metres and ends with a square pier. All outer piers are square and plain, topped with a moulded cornice and a pyramidal cap. The central piers each have a pair of Doric columns with alternating blocks flanking a niche, topped with a moulded cornice and pediment. The main gates are 18th-century wrought iron, featuring an elaborate overthrow that incorporates two "B"s, one being a mirror image of the other. The flanking walls are adorned with 18th-century wrought iron railings.
