Description
Tapper Meadow Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, which was restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill panels set on a stone and brick plinth, while the south end wall is faced with sandstone rubble. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has gabled ends, with a rebuilt brick axial stack.
The cottage is likely to have originally had a two-room plan. The smaller room on the left (south) is now heated by a central axial stack, while the larger room on the right (north) has been subdivided by partitions.
The exterior is one storey with an attic and has an asymmetrical east front with two windows. There are small late 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars and a late 20th-century plank door to the right. The roof features two small raking dormers and one roof-light. The rear (west) side has four late 20th-century casements on the ground floor and two roof-lights. The north gable end has late 20th-century casements, and the south gable end has a late 20th-century French casement.
Inside, the left-hand (south) room has two chamfered axial beams without stops and a new brick fireplace. To the right of the stack, there are two chamfered axial beams and later partitions. The roof structure includes a collar truss with clasped purlins.
