Description
Chipsholm is a former lodge that has been converted into a house, dated 1842, with a 20th-century addition. The building is constructed of ashlar and features a slate roof. It has a central lateral stack that is supported below the eaves by a well-carved mask corbel, and a tall ornamental octagonal flue. The building is designed in a Tudor style with ornamental bargeboards and has a T-plan layout.
It stands two storeys high with a two-bay front. To the right, there is a gabled porch featuring a pointed arch and a hood mould, while to the left, a 2-light window has Tudor-arched lights, ornamental glazing, and a square hood mould with figures as stops. Above this window is an elaborate coat of arms with raised letters that read: 'AVI NUMERANTOR AVORUM'. The left return of the building consists of three bays, with the right bay breaking forward and gabled. The windows on this side are similar to those at the front but have figure-head stops on the hood moulds. There is a single light window in the second bay on the ground floor and a later 20th-century casement window above it. The date is displayed in ornamental raised figures to the left.
In the return of the gable, a first-floor chimney breast is corbelled out on two finely carved figure heads and has tall, finely carved, octagonal paired flues. There is also a coat of arms in the apex of the rear gable. The interior has not been inspected.
