Description
Number 4 (Mayfield Cottage) and Corner Cottage are a group of three cottages located on Main Street in Kneeton. They were built in the mid-18th century and mid-19th century, constructed from brick with pantile roofs. The buildings feature a brick plinth and plain and rebated eaves. Corner Cottage has a coped gable with kneelers and two ridge stacks along with a single gable stack.
The cottages are two storeys high and consist of one block with three bays. Number 4, on the left, has a gabled two-storey rear addition. To the north, there is a door flanked by single sash windows, and to the right, a door with a segmental head. The west front of Number 4 has a single sash window on each floor, with the lower window featuring a segmental head. The west front also includes a modified sash with a segmental head, and to its right, a door and two sashes, all with segmental heads. Above these, there are three different sashes with timber lintels. Corner Cottage has a two-storey gabled rear addition and, to the south, a casement window on each floor, with the lower window also having a segmental head.
