Description
Southfield Lodge is a house dating from around 1830, with a mid-20th century extension. It is constructed of painted brick with a slate roof and has two external and one ridge stack of red brick. The house sits on a chamfered plinth, rendered between the plinth and sills. The main part of the house is two storeys with three bays, the central bay being three storeys high and slightly projecting, with a pyramidal roof forming a turret. Gabled outer bays have decorative bargeboards. A central doorway has a glazed and panelled door. Single sash windows are located either side of the entrance, with three sashes above. The central single sash window is smaller. Above this, in the central bay, is a rectangular recessed panel containing a small, pointed arched opening with a single casement. A gabled dormer with a decorative bargeboard and a single trefoil window sits above. A lean-to glass, wooden, brick, and wrought iron verandah with a tiled floor and decorative brackets projects from above the ground floor openings, set three steps up. To the right, set back, is a two-storey, two-bay painted brick extension with a hipped slate roof. This extension also has a chamfered plinth and two sashes to the front, with two smaller sashes breaking into the eaves, each gabled over with plain bargeboards. All sashes have decorative glazing bars and are set under pointed arches.
