Description
Meden Cottage is an estate cottage dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a rendered finish and features hipped and lean-to roofs covered in concrete tiles. The building has a stone plinth and includes a central ridge and a single rear stack. It stands two storeys tall and has a square plan with lean-to wings, presenting three unequal bays.
The south front features two casement windows and a setback bay to the right that contains a round-headed doorway. To the right of this doorway is a boundary wall with both round-headed and segmental-headed doorways. Above, to the left, there are two casements, while to the right is a blank opening with a segmental head. The east side has a blocked doorway and door, with three different casements above. To the east, there is a coped boundary wall and a linked single-storey outbuilding with three bays. The west side has a lean-to with an asbestos cement roof on the left, and to the right, there is a door flanked by single casements, with a blocked opening beyond. Above this, there is another blocked opening. The rear elevation features a gabled dormer.
Meden Cottage is part of the complete Estate Village that was laid out by Earl Manvers of Thoresby Park between 1807 and 1812.
