Description

Rose Cottage is an estate cottage built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, which is rendered and colourwashed, and features a hipped slate roof with deep eaves and three ridge stacks. The cottage has two storeys and is arranged in a cross plan with canted ends, consisting of three bays.

The south front showcases windows that are 20th-century Gothick casements set in round-headed recesses. There are three Gothick casements on the ground floor and three smaller casements above. The central bay projects and has pointed recesses on each side. The east end features a central casement in a round-headed recess, with a blank window and an insurance plaque displaying three dogs' heads and a number above it. The west end has a central 20th-century casement in a round-headed recess, with a blank window above.

At the rear, there is a round-headed blank recess to the left, with a 20th-century lean-to and casement to the right, along with a 20th-century porch in the return angle. Above this, there are four casements, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. This building is styled similarly to those in the Estate Village of Budby, which was laid out by Earl Manvers between 1807 and 1812.
