Description
The lych gate and boundary wall at the Church of St. John were built in 1918 and 1861, respectively. The lych gate is constructed from timber and rockfaced ashlar, topped with a graduated slate roof. The boundary wall is a dwarf wall featuring gabled intermediate piers and larger cross gabled corner piers. It is adorned with patterned wrought iron railings that have fleur de lys heads. To the west, there is a pair of cross gabled gatepiers and matching wrought iron gates.
The lych gate itself has two rockfaced piers, each displaying a bronze memorial tablet. Above these, four posts support a principal rafter roof with a trussed gable and bargeboards. On the south side, there is a four-centred arched opening with a transom that includes a conventional inscription. The entrance features a pair of moulded timber gates with iron crosses.
