Description
The lychgate and boundary wall to St John's Churchyard are constructed from rough random rubble for the boundary walls and polygonal black granite for the lychgate, featuring freestone dressings, including a raking gabled roof. The lychgate has a deep moulded archway with an inscribed band and plain chamfered responds on either side, supported by buttresses that end in pinnacles with traceried arcaded bands. The low chamfered timber gates have openwork panels, with cross bracing in the upper sections and wrought iron below.
The boundary walls are topped with rustic embattled parapets, raised at intervals over lancet-like recesses. At each end of the churchyard, the wall terminates in polygonal turretted gate piers.
