Description
This building, known as No. 1 Main Street, is an estate cottage dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and rendered, featuring hipped pantile roofs. The cottage has a rendered plinth and a partial band, with very deep rebated eaves and a grouped central ridge stack. It is a single storey plus attics, with a single bay and a square plan.
The windows are Gothick casements, although some are boarded up. On the south front, to the left, there is a canted bay window with a casement and a hipped pentice roof that extends to the right to form a porch. This porch has a canted opening with a recessed door. Above this, there is a central dormer with a casement. The east side features a lean-to with a 20th-century casement and, to the right, another Gothick casement. Above, there is a dormer with a Gothick casement. The rear elevation also has a similar dormer above. On the west side, there is a blocked opening and a Gothick casement.
This building is part of the complete Estate Village that was laid out by Earl Manvers of Thoresby Park between 1807 and 1812.
