Description
Meden View/Wayside is a pair of estate cottages built in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of brick and rendered, featuring gabled, hipped, and lean-to roofs covered with pantiles. They have a rendered plinth and deep eaves, with two ridge stacks, one of which is grouped. The buildings are single storey plus attics and arranged in an L-plan with three bays.
The south front includes a gabled porch on the left and a gabled cross wing on the right, with a lean-to addition beyond. To the left, there is a canted doorway with a recessed door, followed by three casement windows and a blank canted doorway. Above, on the left, is a gabled dormer and to the right, another casement window. The east front features a central canted doorway flanked by single casements, with a 20th-century lean-to addition and door to the right. Above this is a gabled dormer. The west side has a projecting bay with a blocked opening and a canted blocked opening to the right, along with a gabled dormer above.
At the rear, there are adjoining 19th and 20th-century outbuildings that are single storey, constructed of brick with slate and asbestos roofs, and a central stack. The rear elevation features a casement window to the left and a gabled dormer to the right. This building is part of the complete Estate Village laid out by Earl Manvers of Thoresby Park between 1807 and 1812.
