Description
Nos. 2 and 3 Main Street are a pair of estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick, rendered, and partly colourwashed, topped with pantile roofs. The cottages feature a rendered plinth and a band on the porch, with a single side wall and a single gable stack. They are designed as a single storey plus attics in an L-plan layout, with gabled rear wings.
The south front includes a projecting cross wing with a gabled porch, which has a canted door facing south and similar blank openings on each side. To the right of the porch, there are three casement windows. Above, on the left, is a casement window, and to the right, there are two gabled dormers. The east front features a gabled porch with a canted doorway to the south and similar blank openings to the east and north. To the right, there is a large 20th-century casement window, and above, on the left, is another casement window.
On the west front, there is a recess containing a Yorkshire sash window to the left, and to the right, there are two casements. Above, there are two gabled dormers. The north gable has a 20th-century door and casement window, with a Gothick casement above. At the rear, there is an adjoining single-bay, single-storey outbuilding, and the rear elevation mainly features 20th-century windows. This building is part of the complete Estate Village laid out by Earl Manvers of Thoresby Park between 1807 and 1812.
