Description

A row of five houses, now used as four shops, was built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early, mid, and late 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with a gabled and hipped concrete tile roof. It features a first-floor band, half-round brick dentillated eaves, coped gables, four ridge stacks and a single gable stack. The building is three storeys high and has a nine-window front, with a slightly projecting central section.

The front facing Barnby Gate has three single-pane windows on the ground floor, and to their right, three glazing bar sash windows. To the left is a blank section, and to the right are two plain sash windows. Above, a small glazing bar sash is flanked to the left by a 20th-century casement and to the right by a blank section. Further to the left are two 20th-century casements and a blank section. To the right are a glazing-bar sash and two 20th-century casements. The ground floor shopfronts include an early 20th-century metal-framed shopfront with four windows and toplights, a shopfront dating from around 1930 with an off-centre glazed door flanked by single-pane windows with patterned toplights, two fielded six-panel doors (the left with an overlight, the right with a blank fanlight), and a shopfront dating from around 1900 with a pilastered wooden facade, brackets, a half-glazed door, and a single-pane window.

The side facing Appleton Gate has two 20th-century single-pane windows, with two 20th-century casements above, all with rubbed brick heads. Below, the early 20th-century metal shopfront from Barnby Gate continues, with two two-pane windows and a glazed corner doorway.
