Description
The Old Grammar School, now used as offices, was built in 1819 with late 19th-century additions. It is constructed of brick with a dressed stone plinth and features a hipped and gabled slate roof. The building has two string courses, chamfered eaves, and stacks on the ridge and side walls. The windows are glazing bar sashes of various sizes, topped with rubbed brick heads. The structure has three storeys and is arranged in three rows of six bays.
The north gable, facing the street, has a pediment with a central blank section flanked by single windows on each floor, with the upper floor windows being smaller. To the right, there is a round-headed doorway with a plain fanlight, above which are single sashes on each floor. To the left, a late 19th-century flat-roofed porch features a cornice and ramped parapet, along with a three-light mullioned window and an adjacent doorway. Above the porch is a tablet inscribed "Collegiate Grammar School of Southwell." The hipped end facing the Minster churchyard has regular fenestration, including a central full-height sash on the ground floor. Inside, there is a stone dogleg stair with stick balusters.
