Description
Gascoines is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid 19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a hipped slate roof. It has a plinth, moulded dentillated eaves, three ridge stacks, and a single side wall stack. The structure is three storeys high and has a three-window range with a square plan.
The front facing the Market Place has a central sash window flanked by single tripartite sashes. Above this, there is similar fenestration with a central blank space and smaller windows. The central doorcase features a cornice supported by consoles, leading to a six-panel door with a fanlight. On either side of the doorcase, there are 19th-century paired plain sashes, and all these windows have keystoned lintels.
The Church Street front has a central blank space flanked by single plain sashes, with similar smaller sashes above. All these windows also have keystoned lintels. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century pilastered wooden shopfront with a door on the left and three windows on the right.
