Description
The Crown Hotel is a public house located in Southwell, dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the early and late 20th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a hipped and gabled slate roof. The building has a rounded corner, plain eaves, and three ridge stacks.
The front facing the market place consists of six bays of glazing bar sash windows on the ground floor, with six smaller sash windows above. To the left, there is a rusticated early 20th-century doorcase with a segmental pediment, accompanied by a single sash window on the left and four sash windows on the right. The Church Street side has a slightly projecting center with a three-window range of glazing bar sashes, and above this, there are three smaller sash windows.
A chamfered round-headed doorway with a keystone and imposts displays the words "Crown Hotel" in raised lettering. On either side of this doorway, there is a round-headed scraper, and beyond, there are single sash windows. The interior of the hotel was refitted in the early and late 20th century.
