Description

No. 36, Middlegate is a house, now used as a shop and flat, dating from the early 19th century and altered around 1988. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a pantile roof. The eaves are dentillated with half-round brick detailing, and there are two gable stacks present. Windows are characterised by flat arches. The building is three storeys high and originally had a two-window range of plain sashes. Above this, two smaller windows with glazing bars are visible. On the ground floor, a full-width wooden shopfront was added in the late 20th century, featuring pilasters and a cornice, with an off-centre glazed door. This door is flanked by a single-pane window and a two-pane window. To the right of the shopfront is a round-headed entry.
