Description
This is a house with a shop and a former stable, dating from around 1800. It is situated on Millgate in Newark on Trent.
The building is constructed of brick with stucco dressings, and has gabled and hipped concrete tile roofs. The eaves are cogged, and there are two gable and one side wall stack. The front facing Millgate has a four-window range of glazing bar sash windows, with keystoned lintels; every other window is blank. To the left is a shop front with a half-glazed, two-leaf door, flanked by single, three-light shop windows with pilastered surrounds, all beneath a continuous cornice. Beside the shop front is a fielded, six-panel door with an overlight and a pointed-headed scraper, followed by a glazing bar sash window and a blank window.
The former stable, to the right, is two storeys high and has three windows with segmental heads. A central Yorkshire sash window is flanked to the right by a similar sash, and to the left by a larger glazing bar sash. On the ground floor to the left is a close-boarded door, and to the right an altered pair of close-boarded carriage doors, both with wooden lintels. The left side of the building, facing Parliament Street, has two glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, the right-hand window being blank. Below, a segment-headed window is visible.
