Description
The Kennels is a former gatehouse and kennels, now functioning as a house, dating from the mid-18th century. It was altered by John Carr around 1798. The building is constructed from ashlar and stone, with a rendered finish and features gabled and lean-to slate roofs. It has an ashlar plinth and dressings, along with a large central ridge stack. Notable architectural details include a moulded cornice, an eaves band, and a pediment.
The structure is a two-storey pedimented block with coped flanking walls and is arranged in three bays on the west front. This front features a moulded keystoned central arch flanked by four giant diced pilasters and three round-headed glazing bar sashes. Above this, there are three glazing bar casements. The flanking boundary walls each have three round-headed dummy sashes, corner pilasters, and fluted vase finials. To the right, there is a rendered boundary wall with a pair of gatepiers that have bands, paterae, and square domed caps, along with a pair of late 19th-century timber gates. The rear elevation includes a blocked archway and three glazing bar sashes, with a central casement above flanked by single round windows, and another round window in the pediment above that.
