Description

A barn and attached pigeoncote dating to around 1700, with an early 18th-century addition, and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed local sandstone rubble and brick, with ashlar dressings, and has an asbestos-clad roof. The south-east elevation features large threshing doors flanked by rows of small ventilation holes. A single loft opening is to the left, and beyond that is an added pigeoncote with a stone ground floor and a plank door set within an ashlar surround, reached by a flight of external stone steps. To the right, the walling is largely blank, with a single loft opening in an ashlar surround. A former lean-to addition is now largely collapsed. The north-west elevation includes several doorways, including a blocked doorway with an ashlar surround, and two loft openings above. A stone lean-to addition, with a pantile roof and two plank doors flanking a window, is to the right. The pigeoncote, located at the north-east end, has a brick upper floor, a raised brick gable with kneelers, and a pantile roof. A long brick flight-perch extends along the south-east and north-east fronts, while the north-west front features flight holes.
