Description
Skegby Hall is a country house, now serving as a community home, built in 1720 and later altered and extended in the late 19th century and in 1946. It was constructed by the Lindley family and features brick with ashlar dressings. The roof, added in 1946, is not visible. The building has a chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, an eaves band, and a coped parapet. It is two storeys plus attics and has a square plan with five bays.
The windows are primarily 18th century glazing bar sashes, with smaller sashes in the attic storey. The south front features an off-centre doorcase with a pediment and half-round steps, flanked to the left by one sash and to the right by two sashes. Above, there are four sashes on each floor. The east side has five sashes on each floor, while the west side includes a late 19th century two-storey addition with a double sash on each floor, followed by a mid-20th century two-storey link with a door and a casement above it, and three sashes and a 20th century door to the right. Above this section, there are four sashes on each floor. The southwest side features a three-storey, two-bay addition from 1946, designed in a matching style. The north side has mid and late 20th century flat-roofed additions and stacks.
Inside, there is a dogleg stair in a square well, featuring turned and twisted balusters and a moulded ramped handrail. Two rooms have full-height fielded panelling and overmantels, with one room also having a Classical cornice. The hallway includes Classical cornices and a keystoned round arch with fluted pilasters.
