Description
Skegby War Memorial, erected in 1922, is located next to the south door of the Church of St Andrew, in the center of the churchyard. This sandstone monument has a square base and features a hexagonal, carved cross with a wheel, which stands on a square tapered plinth. The memorial is set on a two-stepped base and a raised platform. The plinth includes a series of inscribed slate commemorative tablets. The main inscription on the front tablet reads: "THIS / MONUMENT / AND THE / SCHOOL CLOCK / WERE ERECTED TO THE / GLORY OF GOD / AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE / WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / 1914-18." The other tablets around the plinth list the names of 43 local men who died in the First World War.
